Japan and Suicide
Social Commentary
Japan has one of the highest suicidal rates in the world and the numbers continue to increase. This project sheds light on such a sensitive topic and brings more awareness to the root causes of suicide. The main goal of this progress is to inform others about the suicidal issue Japan faces as well as providing resources for international audiences.
As for the process, I wanted this project to be a booklet consisting of illustrations and have everything story-based, highlighting the most common reasons one takes their own life in Japan. Additionally, I tie into those different reasons towards the ending and adding a call to action afterwards. The illustrations done were somewhat inspired by Japanese artist Hayao Miyazaki, who is widely well known for Japanese animation and storytelling within his works.
